Overview

KIDÉ ASAMOAH(22) and JAYLEN PEÑA(23) are two best friends living in East New York, Brooklyn. When they’re not at their daily jobs, they spend most of their time on the basketball court, taking pictures, and trying to stay out of trouble. Kidé works at his family’s neighborhood cafe, and Jaylen works for the food delivery service “Mooove”.
Things begin changing when Kidé receives a mysterious call, asking him to come into the offices of a prominent magazine and discuss his photography; a hobby he never took seriously. This meeting introduces both Kidé and Jaylen’s into a new world and new troubles.

WRITER & DIRECTOR

Aaron Vazquez

Aaron Vazquez is a prolific NYC based film director and photographer whose work mixes natural elements, intimate moments and surreal imagery. He’s earned 12 years of experience directing commercials, photoshoots, music videos, documentaries, and short films for large companies and indie groups alike. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Rolling Stone, etc.
His feature length debut will feature these elements and also tell a passionate story that draws from experience as an up-and-coming photographer and the community that surrounds it. The story will also draw from his experiences leaving Texas as a teenager.
The film will feature vibrant colors and cinematic framing, resembling the films of Spike Lee and Paul Thomas Anderson. But will also feature quiet moments with humor that resembles the films of Sofia Coppola and Greta Gerwig.

PREVIOUS WORK

PRODUCER’S NOTE

NOWHERE TO GO will be a indie film with large commercial appeal comparable to FINDING FORRESTER, LADY BIRD, LOST IN TRANSLATION, and MOONLIGHT. With this film to attract 18+ male/female upscale audience domestically and internationally.
Due to the artistic and socioeconomic struggles of the characters, we expect our audience to be females-skewed, but the NYC setting and suspense/drama elements will lock in the male, indie film, and international demographic.
NOWHERE TO GO has just a few locations. This will be greatly beneficial during production, allowing us flexibility to craft artistic cinematography, with a small budget.
There will be very few films like NOWHERE TO GO that focus on coming-of-age stories that frame lower socioeconomic neighborhoods through a joyful and artistic lens, with an empowering message of hope, inside and out.
